About Sayso

There is something rather wonderful about being told about a place you would never have found on your own.

A restaurant tucked away on a street you have walked past a hundred times, a small business that has quietly built a loyal following, or a new place someone happens to mention in conversation, and suddenly you are wondering how you had never heard of it before.

That is where Sayso began.

We are two psychology graduates in our twenties who have always been slightly obsessed with finding good places and telling other people about them. At some point, we started wondering why there was not a better way to share all of those discoveries, particularly in South Africa, where there is so much to discover. So we decided to build it.

Sayso is a place for finding what is worth knowing about.

The restaurant your friend keeps talking about, the shop you did not know existed, the new spot that has just opened around the corner, or the small business that deserves a little more attention. It is about the things you might never have come across otherwise, and, importantly, the people behind them.

We have always believed that some of the best ways to discover something come from someone who has already discovered it themselves. Our backgrounds in psychology probably have something to do with that. We spent years thinking about people, what makes us curious, what shapes our choices, and why the experiences of the people around us matter so much.

Word of mouth is one of the oldest ways we discover the world, and we simply wanted to give it somewhere to go.

Sayso is proudly South African and women-founded. It is also still a young company, built by two people in their twenties who are learning as we go, figuring things out, and having a rather good time doing it.

We made Sayso because it is something we wanted ourselves: a place where discovering somewhere new feels a little more personal, where good businesses can be found by the people who are looking for them, and where sharing something you love can lead someone else to their next favourite place.

Ultimately, that is what Sayso is about. Finding something good, and making sure it does not stay a secret.
